Almost 5,000 charging stations for electric vehicles in Spain

The demand for EV charging points in Spain continues to increase. According to the Escuela Superior de Administración y Dirección de Empresas (ESADE), an estimated 145,000 charging points will be needed by 2030. Although we are still far from these figures, the growth is remarkable. In 2015 the number of charging points was 1700, having increased to 5,000 at present. Undoubtedly, much work remains to be done to meet the needs over the next decade but the statistics show that we are on the right track.

The two cities with the highest number of charging points in Spain are Madrid with 186 and Barcelona with 206. Moreover, there is a good ratio between the number of electric vehicles and connection points per province.

A factor to take into account in the creation of recharging stations is population density. The cities mentioned above are a good example of this, given that Madrid serves fewer vehicles per station than Barcelona, due to their differences in population density.
