IoT technology reaches the ports

The Internet of Things (IoT) is revolutionizing many sectors, every day are designing projects that use this technology as the main engine for the development of different functions. Such is the case of the ports, and more specifically in a project carried out by the Polytechnic University of Valencia, in collaboration with the ports of Bordeaux (France), Monfalcone (Italy) and other partners, are working with IoT technologies, to reduce the environmental impact generated by ports.

The project named PIXEL will allow the collection and sharing of data between different agents involved in port activities, in order to improve processes while offering information on temperature levels, humidity, number of ships entering the port, moorings available, types of merchandise transported, among other indicators.

The project also intends to establish a metric called the Port Environmental Index (PEI), and thus be able to measure and analyze data on the impact generated by the port´s activities and make appropriate decisions.
